Canada's animal welfare network includes provincial SPCAs, city humane societies and independent rescues that shelter, treat and rehome dogs, cats, small animals and farm animals. In some provinces the SPCA also has legal powers to investigate animal cruelty. Genuine Canadian charities are registered with the Canada Revenue Agency and have a charitable registration number ending in RR0001 (or similar), which you can look up on the CRA's public charities listing before you donate. Each Canadian organisation listed on Real Rescues has been checked against its official website and its CRA registration.
