Calgary Humane Society has worked for animals in Calgary since 1922, and moved into its current purpose-built shelter in south-east Calgary in 2006. It is a registered Canadian charity (CRA 118823632RR0001) and takes in owner-surrendered dogs, cats and other animals, as well as animals seized in cruelty cases, caring for them until they can be adopted.
According to its 2025 annual report, the society supported 3,427 animals during the year, including 1,500 owner-surrendered animals, and 795 foster homes cared for 1,551 animals that needed extra time before adoption. Its animal protection team carried out 993 cruelty investigations and seized more than 650 animals, and the society keeps a public prohibition list of people banned from owning animals. Volunteers gave almost 40,000 hours.
Beyond adoption, Calgary Humane Society runs a spay-neuter clinic and community wellness clinics, a pet food bank (625 households helped in 2025), a seniors' programme, emergency boarding and pet safekeeping for owners in crisis, help for renters and owners who are struggling to keep their pets, behaviour advice, training classes and youth education.
The adoption centre at 4455 110th Avenue SE is open Monday to Friday 10am–6pm and weekends 9am–5pm (closed on statutory holidays). You can adopt, foster, volunteer, report cruelty, or donate online; donations receive Canadian tax receipts.
