United Kingdom

The United Kingdom has one of the world's oldest animal welfare traditions, with rehoming centres, national charities and small independent rescues caring for dogs, cats, horses and other animals. Some UK charities also rescue animals from abroad and rehome them in Britain. Genuine charities in England and Wales are listed on the Charity Commission's register, with separate registers kept by OSCR in Scotland and the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, so you can check a charity number before you donate. Each UK organisation listed on Real Rescues has been checked against its official website and the relevant charity register.
