Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has been caring for dogs and cats since 1860, and says it has helped more than three million animals in that time. Its aim is never to turn away a dog or cat in need: it takes in lost, stray and unwanted animals, reunites lost pets with their owners, and cares for the rest until new homes are found.
Battersea runs three rescue and rehoming centres: its original home on Battersea Park Road in south London, a centre at Old Windsor in Berkshire, and one at Brands Hatch in Kent. Animals are rescued, rehabilitated and then matched with new owners. The centres are closed to the public except for pre-booked appointments and a limited number of guided tours at the London centre, so check the website before you travel.
Beyond its centres, Battersea educates the public about responsible pet ownership and says its work reaches animals across the UK and around the world. You can adopt, foster, volunteer or donate through its website.
Battersea Dogs’ and Cats’ Home is a registered charity in England and Wales (Charity Commission No. 206394) and a company limited by guarantee (No. 00278802). It is funded by its supporters; its accounts for the year to 31 December 2024 show income of about £70.3 million and around 650 employees.
