My Disabled Hairy Friends was created by Sybille Morch, a former gynaecological surgeon from Germany who moved to Koh Samui and dedicated her life to caring for disabled street dogs. MDHF is home to around 24 dogs with severe physical disabilities — animals that would have no chance of survival on the streets. At the Taling Ngam property in the southwest of Koh Samui, every dog has space to play, rest, and live as fully as their bodies allow.
Sybille brings her medical background directly to the dogs' care. MDHF provides physiotherapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy (water gymnastics), custom-fitted wheelchairs, and behavioural training. Many dogs arrive in critical condition after road accidents, infections, or human cruelty — and through months of specialist care, they regain function, confidence, and joy.
The dogs at MDHF are permanent residents — this is their forever home, not a transit shelter. Adoptions are only considered in exceptional circumstances. MDHF also welcomes volunteers through the Workaway programme for those who can commit to extended stays.
MDHF is a private non-profit project rather than a registered charity, and it relies entirely on donations and volunteer support. Its official "Support us" page explains how to give, including sponsoring one of the dogs, and you can write to Sybille directly at the email address on its website. Sybille has also written a book about her life and the dogs, currently available in German.
