Mexico's animal welfare community includes sanctuaries, refugios and protectoras that rescue street dogs and cats, care for elderly, disabled and abused animals, and campaign against cruelty. Many are registered as an asociación civil (A.C.), and some are authorised to issue tax-deductible receipts (donataria autorizada). Most rely entirely on public donations, sponsorships and volunteers. Each Mexican organisation listed on Real Rescues has been checked against its official website and independent sources before being added.
