The Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA) traces its roots to around 1910, when it was set up as the East African Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, originally to protect the working oxen that hauled goods to Nairobi. It later opened offices in Nairobi and Nakuru, and a large bequest in 1983 allowed it to upgrade its facilities substantially.

Today the society's main centre is on Langata Road in Karen, Nairobi, where it rescues, treats and rehomes abandoned, injured and mistreated animals, mainly dogs and cats. It also has branches in the Rift Valley (Moi South Lake Road, Karagita, Naivasha), on the Coast (Vipingo) and in Laikipia (Nanyuki), and the organisation says it has more than 1,000 animals in its care on any given day.

Alongside rescue and rehoming, the KSPCA investigates cruelty cases and works to enforce Kenya's animal welfare laws, runs community education, and has launched a horse welfare programme, Furaha ya Farasi. Adoption and fostering enquiries go to the rehoming team, and volunteers are welcomed at its centres.

The KSPCA is funded entirely by donations, fundraising events and volunteer support. Its offices are open seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and donations can be made directly through its website.
