Ireland's animal welfare sector combines national charities with long histories — including the NSPCA, formed in 2025 from the merger of the DSPCA and ISPCA, and Dogs Trust Ireland — with smaller local rescues across the island. Irish rescues take in stray, surrendered and seized dogs, cats, horses and farm animals, and many run fostering, rehoming and education programmes. Genuine Irish charities are listed on the public Register of Charities kept by the Charities Regulator (an RCN number), and many also hold a CHY number from the Revenue Commissioners. Each organisation listed on Real Rescues has been checked against its official website and charity registration before being added.
