Founded in March 2011, Villa Kitty Foundation is the only dedicated cat rescue and welfare organisation on the island of Bali. What began as a small cluster of cats in the corner of an established dog shelter has grown into a thriving, purpose-built sanctuary accommodating hundreds of rescued felines at any one time.
In 2021, Villa Kitty began construction of a new shelter on 3,500 square metres of land in Banjar Tegal Bingin Mas, near Ubud. By February 2022 the full operation had moved to the new site, which now includes a clinic, a temporary operating room, an isolation hospital for cats suffering from feline parvovirus (Panleukopenia), quarantine buildings, a dedicated nursery for abandoned kittens, mothers' rooms, and seven pavilions for vaccinated adult cats.
Villa Kitty's work spans rescue, rehabilitation, sterilisation, vaccination, fostering, and adoption. Their free spay-neuter and vaccination days run four times per week, open to community cats across Bali. The foundation's long-term mission is to reduce the stray cat population by educating Balinese communities about responsible cat ownership and by training more local vets in sterilisation and vaccination.
Visitors are welcome Tuesday to Sunday and can book a guided tour via WhatsApp or email. The foundation also hosts volunteer placements and has a small merchandise shop onsite — a great way to support while picking up a souvenir.
The sanctuary is located on Jalan Ambarawati in Lotunduh, Ubud. There is no entry fee, though donations and merchandise purchases are warmly appreciated. Contact the team via WhatsApp before visiting so they can arrange a guide and tour.
