Mission Paws'ible began in 2015 when Prue Barber, an Australian graphic designer, started rescuing injured and abandoned street dogs in Bali on her own. It has since grown into a charity with entities in three countries: Mission Paws'ible Charity Pty Ltd, registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission since February 2019 and endorsed as a deductible gift recipient (DGR); Yayasan Proyek Peduli Indonesia, its Indonesian foundation; and Mission Paws'ible Inc., a US 501(c)(3) non-profit. Many of its rescues have been featured on The Dodo.
In 2024 the charity opened The Healing Centre, a purpose-built 400 m² rehabilitation facility in Bali that can care for up to 25 animals at a time. Rather than operating as a large shelter, it focuses on intensive recovery for badly injured, sick and neglected dogs, with natural light, raw diets, massage and laser therapy, daily play and leash, toilet and scooter training to prepare them for adoption. It also supports independent solo rescuers on the island.
Alongside rescue and rehabilitation, Mission Paws'ible runs a sterilisation and vaccination programme, an Adopt a Village scheme and a Sterilise Your Street campaign aimed at reducing the number of unwanted puppies and the spread of rabies in Balinese communities. Rescued dogs are rehomed in Bali and overseas through its adoption and fostering programmes.
You can adopt or foster a dog, sponsor a dog, join its monthly giving club (Join the Pack) or donate one-off. Donations through the Australian charity are tax-deductible in Australia, and US donors can give through the 501(c)(3). Visits to The Healing Centre are by booking only, through the charity's website.
