The Fondation Brigitte Bardot (FBB) was founded by the actress Brigitte Bardot in 1986 to protect wild and domestic animals. It was recognised as a fondation reconnue d'utilité publique (a public-interest charity) by decree on 21 February 1992. Its board includes representatives of three supervising ministries (Interior, Ecology and Agriculture). In September 2026 the board elected Max Guazzini, the foundation's secretary-general since 2020, as its new president.

The foundation looks after more than 13,000 animals, including around 7,300 farm animals and around 1,300 horses, ponies and donkeys. They live in its four sanctuaries — La Mare Auzou in Normandy, Bazoches, Montpon and La Davière — or with partner farms that care for them under contract. La Mare Auzou, the foundation's first refuge, houses more than 1,500 animals, with 60 dog parks, ten heated cat houses and pasture for horses, donkeys, pigs, sheep, goats and cattle. The FBB has a no-euthanasia policy: dogs and cats are rehomed, and other animals are cared for for the rest of their lives.

Beyond its refuges, the FBB runs stray cat sterilisation campaigns in mainland France and the overseas territories, takes legal action in cruelty cases, and campaigns for stronger animal protection laws, including at international meetings such as CITES. It supports partner associations in around 70 countries. According to the foundation, it has close to 300 employees, more than 500 volunteer investigators and delegates, and over 70,000 donors.

Dogs and cats can be adopted through the foundation's adoption website. You can also volunteer, report cruelty or donate through its official website.
