Sydney Dogs & Cats Home

Sydney Dogs & Cats Home has been caring for Sydney's lost, abandoned and neglected pets since 1946. A registered charity, it describes itself as Sydney's only charity pound and community facility, taking in lost and stray animals on behalf of its council partners, reuniting them with their owners where possible, and rehabilitating and rehoming those that are not reclaimed.

After many years in temporary premises at Strathfield South, the Home has moved its shelter to a purpose-built site at 69–83 Sir Joseph Banks Drive, Kurnell. Reclaims, adoptions, fostering and council impounding now run from Kurnell, while the veterinary team remains at Strathfield South for the time being. Stage 2 of the new site, including an on-site vet clinic, depends on further fundraising.

In 2024–25 the Home rehomed 870 pets, reunited 239 with their families and arranged more than 1,380 foster placements, supported by over 7,200 volunteer hours. Walk-in adoption enquiries are welcome at Kurnell between 10 am and 4 pm, seven days a week, although some animals are cared for in foster homes.

The Home relies on donations, its foster carers and volunteers. It is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ABN 16 943 464 585) and holds a NSW fundraising authority (CFN 16738), and donations can be made directly through its website.
